River Hygiene Awareness program at Amarkantak by Green Donor EERC India on International Day of Action for Rivers

International Day of Action for Rivers

On the occasion of the International Day of Action for Rivers (14 March), the Green Donor initiative of The Eco-Earth Institute & Research Centre (EERC India) organized a River Hygiene Awareness activity at Amarkantak, the sacred origin of Maa Narmada.

Amarkantak is not only a geographical source of the Narmada River but also a place of deep spiritual significance for millions of people. Protecting the river’s purity and maintaining hygiene around its banks is therefore both an environmental responsibility and a cultural duty.

The awareness initiative focused on spreading the message that true devotion to rivers lies in protecting them from pollution and maintaining their ecological health.

“River hygiene is true devotion.”
Veerji

Purpose of the Initiative

The program aimed to encourage citizens, visitors, and local communities to adopt responsible behaviour around rivers and water bodies.

The key objectives included:

  • Promoting river hygiene and cleanliness

  • Raising awareness about the harmful impact of plastic and waste in rivers

  • Encouraging community participation in river conservation

  • Inspiring people to see environmental protection as a form of devotion to Mother Nature

Key Activities

The awareness program included several community-focused actions:

  • Interaction with visitors and local residents about river hygiene

  • Encouraging responsible disposal of waste near river banks

  • Promoting the idea of plastic-free river surroundings

  • Spreading environmental awareness through the Green Donor movement

Participants were reminded that protecting rivers is not only a government responsibility but also a shared duty of every citizen.

Rivers and Ecological Responsibility

Rivers are the lifelines of civilizations. They provide water, support biodiversity, sustain agriculture, and shape cultural traditions. However, increasing pollution, plastic waste, and irresponsible human practices are threatening river ecosystems across the world.

Through the Green Donor movement, EERC India seeks to build a culture of ecological citizenship, where people act with awareness, compassion, and responsibility toward nature.

A Message from Green Donor

Green Donor believes that serving Mother Nature begins with small but meaningful actions. Maintaining cleanliness around rivers and respecting natural ecosystems are simple steps that can create a powerful collective impact.

When we protect rivers, we protect life itself.
