The world speaks today of Brazil —
A nation that, by reducing deforestation in the Amazon, has also reduced greenhouse gas emissions more than any other country.
This is not just a climate achievement —
I think — this is a spiritual return.
And I ask:
If Brazil can protect its lungs,
Why can’t Bharat, the land of sacred groves and forest-dwelling sages, do the same?
India is not short of trees.
We are short of urgency.
Our forests are not resources — they are Rishis.
From the Aravallis in Rajasthan to the Western Ghats,
From the Sundarbans of Bengal to the forests of Bastar,
India has always lived in dialogue with her trees.
And yet today, roads, rails, mines, and markets are expanding faster than our compassion.
We lose trees, and with them,
we lose carbon sinks, wildlife homes, medicinal plants, tribal livelihoods, and silence itself.
I think — we have forgotten that saving a forest is not an act of charity.
It is an act of national survival.
Brazil proved that when you protect forests, you protect the climate.
Between 2004 and 2012, Brazil reduced deforestation by 70%,
and in doing so, slashed carbon emissions more than any industrial policy ever achieved.
India is among the top emitters globally.
But I think — we can change the narrative
not by chasing carbon credits,
but by honoring our ancient connection to Vanaspati (plant life).
So what can India do now?
Empower forest-dwelling communities — they are the true guardians.
Ban commercial destruction of old-growth forests under false “development” labels.
Reforest with native species, not just fast-growing monocultures.
Restore respect — in education, in economics, in governance — for the forest as a living entity.
Because when India protects her forests,
She doesn’t just cut emissions —
She restores her dharma.
In meditation, I often hear the murmur of ancient trees —
They do not ask for praise.
They only ask:
“Will you still remember us when the air thickens and rivers dry?”
I think —
“A country that respects its forests,
writes its future in green ink.”
Let Brazil inspire us.
But let Bharat awaken.
Not just to meet global targets,
But to fulfil ancestral duties.
Prakruti Pranam.
